terminology
SS = Stone Size (i.e. SS20 = Stone Size 20)
MC = Machine Cut (All facets of the stone are machine cut and polished for high sparkle)
MC Rhinestones are of comparable quality with the Swarovski Rhinestones.
EXTRA = Extra Rhinestones (EXTRA rhinestones have only the top and bottom surfaces cut and polished, the remaining facets are machine pressed)
EXTRA rhinestones don't have so much prism sparkle on the edge of the facets, as the MC rhinestones, however, the top facet which is machine cut, is as reflective as the MC rhinestones.
They are not so labor intensive and therefore are cheaper. With the right supplier they can be significantly cheaper and therefore a very cost effective alternative for MC Rhinestones.
Given the price difference of almost half the price, it is very handy when you need many rhinestones covering your costumes. They are great when you want to create elaborate patterns or to cover large surfaces.
MP = Machine pressed
HOTFIX = iron-on rhinestones. These Rhinestones are coated on the flat bottom facet with special glue, which is activated by heat and attaches the Rhinestone to the fabric. Aproximate time is about 20 seconds, but it differs with fabric and has to be tested out first. HOTFIX is a great time-saver, especially when you want to create elaborate rhinestone paterns on fabric, or cover large surfaces.
